At BJI, one of our most frequent project requests is to style or redesign the primary bedroom. We love these projects and believe that one of the most important elements in creating a comfortable and inviting primary suite is the bed. A well-styled bed not only provides a focal point for the room, but also creates a cozy retreat that encourages rest and relaxation. Today we’re sharing some of the BJI tips and tricks for styling a bed that will elevate any bedroom design.
Start with a quality foundation
Before adding decorative touches, it's important to begin with a solid foundation. Invest in a high-quality mattress and bedding that's both comfortable and visually appealing. Choose bedding that compliments your overall bedroom design, whether that means opting for neutral hues or bold patterns.
Layer your linens
One of the easiest ways to make a bed look stylish and inviting is to layer your linens. Start with a fitted sheet, followed by a flat sheet and a duvet or comforter. Add pillows, shams, and a throw blanket in coordinating colors and textures for a cohesive look.

Mix and match textures
Speaking of textures, mixing and matching different fabrics and materials can add depth and interest to your bed. For example, pair a cozy gauze throw with crisp cotton sheets and a linen duvet cover. The contrast of textures will make your bed look and feel more inviting.
Experiment with pillow arrangements
Pillows are not only functional but also provide a great opportunity to play with different colors, patterns, and textures. Arrange pillows in various sizes, from Euro-size pillows to accent pillows and even lumbar pillows. There’s no such thing as having too many pillows!
Add a statement headboard
A statement headboard can instantly elevate the look of your bed and add personality to your bedroom. Whether you opt for a classic upholstered headboard or a more modern metal design, make sure it complements your bedding and overall bedroom style.
Don't forget the bedside table
While not technically part of the bed itself, a well-styled bedside table can enhance the overall look and feel of your bedroom. Add a lamp, a small basket, and a vase of fresh greenery to create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.
Believe us when we say that a well-styled bed can make all the difference in creating a comfortable and inviting bedroom. We may or may not have even heard clients say that they started sleeping better at night after refreshing their bedding style! And hey - if you spend at least seven hours there every day of your life, why wouldn’t you want to make it a cozy retreat that you'll look forward to crawling into every night?
