How to Decorate for Christmas

Merry Christmas, friends! This is one of my favorite times of year - Christmas movies, holiday parties, time with family - the list goes on. The decor, though, is sometimes what really sets the tone and makes the season come to life. I’m excited to share my home with you and a few of my favorite holiday decorating tips!

The Tree

Let’s start with the focal point of Christmas home decor - the tree! Whether you prefer real or faux, white or colorful lights, fluffy or skinny, the tree is an opportunity to showcase your style and set the foundation for the rest of the holiday decor around your home.

Start by choosing a theme for your tree: gold and neutral ornaments, minimal and natural, or traditional reds and greens. I personally love a flocked tree with neutral tones, allowing the tree to compliment the decor that’s already in my home. I chose a palette of white, champagne/gold, forest green, glass, and black.

Don’t forget to coordinate your gift wrapping! I’m a big fan of this dark green and vintage khaki velvet ribbon and fun gift toppers.

The Mantle

What would a mantle be at Christmastime without greenery (or any of our spaces for that matter!)? Placing garland off-centered over the mantle is a classic look that is a simple and instant way to add that cozy holiday feel we all want in our homes right now.

Continue the off-centered style by hanging your stockings to one side of the mantle under the heaviest part of the garland. To create height and balance the weight of the garland and stockings, I used cast iron candlesticks on the opposite end of the mantle.

The Small Details

Rather than completely overhauling your entire space, my recommendation is to tuck away a handful of your everyday decor pieces and sprinkle in holiday accessories in their place. A little can go a long way in making your home feel festive and cozy.

I wanted to keep my bookshelves close to how they look day-to-day, so I only added in a few groupings of ceramic trees, velvet reindeer, and gold accents to create a seasonal touch without overdoing it.

Lastly, don’t overlook your coffee table! I’m obsessed with the simple, natural look of Magnolia stems (and they last forever). I picked these up from my friends at The Funky Shack.

I hope these tips give you a little design inspo for this holiday season!
