How to Choose Artwork for Your Home

One element that truly contributes to a well-designed space is artwork. The right artwork has the power to transform a room, adding personality, depth, and a touch of sophistication. Keep reading for some of my tips on how to choose the perfect pieces for your home.

The Dining Room:

The dining room is the perfect place to have a little fun. Don’t be afraid to choose artwork that sparks conversation and makes the room feel elegant. Consider large statement pieces like abstract paintings or bold prints that can become a focal point.

The Bedroom:

I don’t know about you, but for me, the bedroom is a personal sanctuary and a place to unwind and regroup from the day, and I find it important to select artwork that promotes tranquility. I recommend choosing artwork with soothing landscapes, abstract art with soft colors, or serene photographs that evoke a sense of calm. Be sure to consider the color palette of your bedding and accent pillows. Artwork is the perfect way to tie all of the elements together.

The Kitchen:

I love incorporating artwork and small decor pieces throughout the kitchen to give it a personalized design feel, rather than simply just a utilitarian space. Add a touch of warmth and character to this space with subtle pieces that won’t make the space seem overly cluttered. Consider vintage or nature inspired artwork. You can even display a collection of vintage kitchen utensils or framed recipes for a unique and personalized touch.

The Living Room:

Your living room is the heart of your home, so it's the perfect place to make a statement with artwork. Opt for larger pieces that grab attention, like a bold abstract painting, a stunning landscape, or a gallery wall to create an eye-catching display.

The Bathroom:

Don’t miss the opportunity to soften your bathroom with a small print or two - either on that blank wall you are unsure what to do with or over the toilet. If it’s an ensuite bathroom, think about pieces that would help connect with the adjoining bedroom. If it’s a powder room, don’t be afraid to make selections that are a bit outside of your comfort zone. Have fun with it!

Objects as Artwork:

One of my favorite ways to dress up a wall is to incorporate pieces that are texture-driven. Hanging baskets and framed textiles are a couple of unique alternatives to prints, photographs, and paintings. I love thinking outside the conventional box and creating a display that draws people in.

Choosing artwork is one of the most exciting parts of designing a space for my clients, because it’s an opportunity to really infuse their personal style into a living space. I can’t wait to see how you get creative and find the perfect pieces that will make your house truly feel like home!
