Embracing Winter: Design with Long Winters in Mind to Make Your Everyday Life Cozier

Hi there! How is your February treating you? Alexis and I have been working away over here on some pretty exciting projects and getting all of the new Spring products ready for the BJI Shop. What we’ve been quietly working on behind the scenes all winter, will be in full bloom come April and May and we just can’t wait to show them to you (we love a good flower analogy)!

To champion these last couple months of cold weather (thanks Groundhogs Day), I’ve compiled a list of a few of my favorite cold weather items and design ideas that make this last stretch of winter a little cozier.

1. Layers = Cozy

Layers are not just for getting dressed in the winter! Adding layers and different textures in a room with blankets, pillows and baskets can instantly liven up a space while also creating a cozy, warm atmosphere.

2. Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup

Let’s talk about soup. I love soup! I’m pretty sure I could eat it for every meal. Exploring new recipes has become a favorite of mine throughout this winter season. My go-to right now is this Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup by Salt & Lavender. My husband, who isn’t the biggest soup fan, even loved this one!

3. Light a Candle

Lighting candles can make a room instantly cozier any time of year, but there is just something about a lit candle going every day that brings such warmth and ambiance to a room in the winter. I always have at least one or two of our BJI Small-Batch candles burning in my home on a chilly day.

4. Add Seasonal Greenery

One way to liven up a space (and your spirits!) during the wintry months is to add seasonal greenery as a dining table centerpiece or as an accent on a side table. Pick out a new vase, grab some flowers from your local market, and spruce up that empty shelf with mother nature’s best décor!
